Let’s dive in…

The New Age of building a brand

A new olive oil company hit the market yesterday and the launch was VERY interesting…

Here is why.

1) Leading With Education

2) Combative Marketing

#2 is not new… but I think we start to see a lot more of it.

Especially in the food / beverage / supplement space.

Let’s cover #1 first…

This is really important and makes you feel part of the launch process

And, if done properly, question all of your diet habits.

They talk about the olives, how they are sourced, where they come from, give facts about olives and health that you may not otherwise know, etc

Ex: “Olives are one of the only fruit you can’t pull off a tree and eat immediately. Olives need to be cured once taken off the tree”

This information builds community but also gets customers eager to buy…But this takes time

Now onto the more interesting #2

These folks are headhunting incumbents + “new” brands who have had success as of late.

Calling out issues with their competitions and naming them by name.

Also some non related brands catching strays.

They aren’t doing this on baseless claims either.

If you are invested / interested you are bound to look into the facts.

Ex: Combining olives from multiple countries = bad

There is a lot of misinformation on food / drinks / supplements with little regulatory oversight.

I think we start to see more and more new brands take this approach.

The caveat: If you take this approach it is imperative to not deviate

Otherwise they are throwing stones from Glass houses…

And the next in line will follow suit.

Values are not free. Nothing is.

If your values are clean/healthy. Stick by it. Even if that means more premium packaging / products.

I’m excited to see this brand mature. I will certainly be checking in to make sure they stand by their values.

As mentioned earlier, I think we start to see a lot more of this...Especially in the supplement world. 

I sat down with an investor in the Wellness space this week and he was chatting about marketing techniques and labels within the supplement world…

He and I both noticed this… There is no regulatory oversight.

"Grass-fed" doesn't need to be "Grass-Fed" - Will add more color to this next week.

A New Era of Ecommerce + Money Making Opportunity

I hinted about this last week on Twitter…

My prediction: 

Framer overtakes Webflow + becomes a popular place for brands to host their websites.

Framer just released an integration to Shopify and they have a marketplace for you to sell templates.

Right now there are less than 1,000 creators making Framer Templates. There are only 108 E-commerce templates highlighted on their e-commerce channel.

They don't even mention the Shopify integration.

Folks are making millions of dollars selling Shopify themes. I think we see a big wave of designers going to Framer to build out sites.

You are VERY early here.

The best part...It's a no-code tool. If you can work a computer you can make a framer site.

You can also create templates for landing pages and email capture (Value prop / images / pre-launch / etc).I build all my own sites in Framer. Happy to chat about this with anyone that is curious. Also happy to help build framer sites for anyone who needs help. I do this for fun (Yes, nerdy...I know)
